I do a lot of different sports and am coming to these headphones from the Sony NWW625B headphones for swimming. They did work really well, though not for swimming: they kept falling off my ears when I flipturn and I couldn't hook them into my swimming goggles because then they would become very uncomfortable in my ears. Then one day they fell off my kayak and were gone for good. I was unable to find the exact model on Amazon to replace them.I've had bone conduction headphones before: my last pair were also very uncomfortable to wear with glasses, which is why I hardly ever used them. I came back to the concept once I realized the newer designs out there don't suffer from this problem. I wanted something completely waterproof because beyond swimming I do a lot of other water and land sports, something with both an MP3 player and bluetooth support, like my Sonys. The Shockz OpenSwim is cheaper, but does not have Bluetooth support, and none of their OpenRun line has an MP3 player or is completely waterproof. Shockz dropped the ball on this one.So I came upon these headphones: Bluetooth support and still waterproof. Built-in MP3 player and work with glasses. Everything I wanted, at least on paper. One pair for everything.First impression wasn't all that great: I took them out of the box and hooked them to copy 8GB of MP3 right there and then, before I even powered them on for the first time. The headphones are only USB 1.1, which means 8GB of MP3s take about 4 hours to copy. Why? Are these not expensive enough for at least USB 2.0 support? USB 2.0 has been around for more than 20 years now, and cheap flash storage that can keep up is abundant! H2O PLEASE FIX!For my first test I took them to the gym with me. As you can imagine they do not isolate noise, so listening to them on a busy intersection can make it a challenge to hear, and in the gym I can hear everything over them, including the stupid music my gym plays over the PA all the time. The sound quality was ok, though I probably won't be using them for that again. They stayed on securely no matter what I did, which was a pleasant surprise. These would be great for outdoor sports. For my second test, I tried to swim with them. I used the built-in MP3 player, obviously, Bluetooth does not work underwater. Above water my music sounds great, a pretty flat pleasant sound. The moment I put my head down, though, that bass becomes extremely and unbearably loud, distorting and overwhelming all other sound! It is deafening! I should have anticipated this and I would not be doing this without earplugs again. In all cases, the battery life was approximately what was stated. In all cases, the headphones stayed on securely and did not budge. They were comfortable and kept my ears open to hear everything around me. I will be cycling and kayaking with these without any concerns. I will try swimming again with the ear plugs, now that I have headphones I don't have to mind. The MP3 player traverses the file system and plays the files in order, but it is not smart enough to follow the metadata within the MP3s for order of songs, or the navigate M3U playlists, which is annoying and something my Sonys used to do. Also, when I skip a folder, the headphones starts playing something random in the next folder, not the first file there, which is also annoying and a really strange design choice. H2O PLEASE FIX!Last but not least, I have concerns about these headphones in salt water: The contacts are too small and would need to be cleaned soon after immersion, or they will stop working. Also, waterproof does not mean floating: I will be trying to put some floats on them.UPDATE: a month in: headphones sound great underwater with the earplugs on, no more deafening bass distorting everything. The earplugs to come with the headphones are pretty uncomfortable and I got better ones that are made for swimming. Cycling with these on is a joy, they last approximately 5.5 hours on bluetooth with volume at close to max before they finally die. The built-in MP3 player is lousy and I only use it for swimming and running where I can't have my phone with me: it does not follow M3U playlists, it does not read the metadata within the songs, it doesn't even play files as numbered in the file name. It basically plays MP3s in the order they were added to the filesystem, something I have no control over. Eventually I gave up trying to order my MP3s and just encoded entire albums as single MP3s and them put them in directories per artist. The buttons are tiny and not easy to use, so I switching between songs was difficult even when possible, this way at least the songs play in order. In summary, I wish H2O would put a better MP3 player that would at barest minimum follow the numbering of tracks in the file name. What they have done instead is absolutely stupid and unusable. Also, bigger buttons that are usable with gloves please!
