I am a firefighter and Fire Chief, and have 11 flash lights of different types in my vehicle, and two different headlamps. The other one is a bit cheaper than this LED Lenser, and is my backup. My go to headlamp is this LED Lenser. The knob came off on the back, that you turn to increase the brightness, but that hasn't been a big deal. I didn't need the rechargeable battery, as a fire department we get flooded with AA batteries so that's not a problem. The longevity of the batteries is decent, but if you have a lamp this bright you cannot expect a very long battery life. But it still lasts me through several emergencies before I proactively replace the batteries so that they don't die on me in the middle of a call when I don't have the time or nerve to switch it.The adjustment of the brightness is better than any other lamp I have had, and the zoom is simply fantastic. Often enough it ended up being my lamp that was used exclusively as it can work as a work light for a small group. Even if this one breaks at some point with my rough use, I will get the same one again. Bought this on August 4, 2015, and we are in September of 2019.One of the best lights on a headlamp! Although there are some issues, when looking for animals and hiking I've found brightness (lumens), number of different modes, and the ability to focus light are key!Comparison vs. Princeton Tec Apex:Light:+ LED lenser's is brighter and has the ability to focus to a more narrow, concentrated beam of light. These features are what make it one of the best headlamps.Modes:+ Both LED Lenser and Princeton Tec models have enough light modes for any situation. In some cases you won't want the light at maximum brightness whether it is to save battery or to take pictures without brightening things up too much.Construction:- Princeton Tec is by far the more rugged of the two. It is waterproof and much more solidly constructed. LED Lenser's is made of cheaper plastic and materials.- LED Lensers button placement is a bit annoying. There's a big, easy to push, button on the back that invariably is TOO EASY to push and ALMOST ALWAYS gets pushed while travelling. It doesn't turn the headlamp on but turns on a small red light that drains the battery over time. Not something you want to figure out when you need light. This is the biggest downfall of this light.UPDATE: light started to malfunction, seems to be faulty cable connection.I spent days reading through reviews and google searching for the longest lasting headlamp around 500 lumens and this is the one I choose. I tried a few high rated off amazon and they all died so quickly. I am a mechanic and need my light to last for hours at a time. I have charged this twice since I have purchased it. I am averaging one charge a week right now with heavy use. Its nice to do a 5 hour job and not have to switch headlamps out. Add 2 of these to your arsenal and never deal with low quality headlamps again.I can't give it top marks because no light will meet my expectations. They are always just almost bright enough, the batteries last almost as long as I desire and they are a bit cheaply made due to too much reliance on Chinese parts. This one comes close and is easy to put on once adjusted. Functions are a bit more complicated than I need but basic on/off, brightness are easily set.Have been using this headlamp every day at work for almost 4 years. Works perfectly & goes for days on a charge. You can adjust the brightness and beam , spot or flood, in seconds. Makes a ton of light or just enough. Has a rechargeable battery or will work with AA batteries. Keep some handy, and you always have a working headlamp. Have used it outside in the rain. No problem. Have purchased three so far. Did finally have a problem with the first one. Sent it back for repairs on warranty. They sent me a complete new headlamp. Very impressed with the headlamp and the manufacturer support. New headlamps have a 7-year warranty. The headlamp is awesome. I've tried other headlamps sold in stores but nothing compares to this one. I work on furnaces so I'm always in a basement where the lighting varies from house to house but I don't have to worry anymore. I also use it riding my bike at night. Turns out you really don't look like a dork wearing it either as people ask me to use it all the time. 5 out of 5 stars all day long. I can wake my neighbors up across the street with this thing on turbo mode. Not kidding either about that. PerfectOver the years, I've used quite a few headlamps to help with home improvement tasks. Often, I've been disappointed by their lack of brightness. When I recently found myself needing to get a new headlamp, I was getting ready to be disappointed, again. Well, this lamp does not disappoint. I've used it for intricate work in tight, unlit areas. I've never had a lamp that was as bright and as versatile as this one. This headlamp is well balanced, comfortable to wear, the battery life is great and produces an unbelievable bright white light. It works great when I'm snow blowing because it lights up everything around me and when I working by the road...vehicles can definitely see me. Just a shipping note..since this is coming directly from the manufacturer, don't expect to receive the package in two or three days. I've only worn this for one 40min evening walk with my dogs through the woods, and the light is already boxed up ready for return, which is a shame as I was excited about using this. The quality of the light itself is very high, the battery pack feels a tad cheaper, but overall worth the cost of the product and R&D etc etc.My light was charged for 24hours before first use, and the charging light on the rear indicated it was full. I set the light on the maximum mode but every few minutes it returned to lower brightness. The charging light was fine and I was still showing good reserve. The strap isn't as long/big/forgiving as I would have hoped, and when set on maximum size the battery pack sits to the left side of your head which feels strange. I adjusted so the battery pack weight was in the middle, but then the straps were a little too tight and the light began to feel uncomfortable. The light also maked your head very warm as the straps don't appear to breathe so freely.I like the spread/flood light, and the narrow beam is also strong , but as far as illuminating anything 300m away I'm not too sure on that. A reflector of light maybe, but not three huge dogs on a hillside.Overall three stars from me. No I can't make a better product myself, but the cost isn't worth the shortcomings of discomfort.I've had mine for a couple of years now and have used it several times a week in my job as an electrician. I simply can't fault it. I charge it when I remember and only use the full brightness when peering into the distant recesses of attics etc, so it's on lower brightness most of the time.I've dropped it, bumped it, thrown it into a tool bag and nothing has cracked or fallen off!I stretch it over a hard hat sometimes and then wear it on my head on others. No problems at all.I'm genuinely surprised that some people have had issues and/or been unhappy as my experiences with LEDLenser stuff has left me recommending them.Don't expect the power of a police helicopter searchlight from ANY torch. Lumen ratings, like calories in food, are often exaggerated. I've seen torches claiming umpteen thousand lumens, but when you actually use it, it doesn't appear brighter.....HmmmmNot cheap - but I also tried a cheap unbranded one which had serious issues and a poor battery life.Based on my experiences, I think these are still the best and mine is still working for daily use.Good points; Apart from light good output, the choice of using a battery pack or rechareable cells is useful as you can keep a back-up set of cells in your box. However.....The light output might be good but the battery box and lens housing is made from plastic which feels flimsy and feels like it will crack unless you take a lot of care (i.e. don't leave it in the bottom of your tackle box). Plastic clips (like on the battery box) have a habit of breaking eventually and will not keep out water like a screw-down system will and would not stand the downnpour that the screw-down lid will do on my earlier model. My last LED Lenser had alloy housings for the lamp and battery but finally died due to being unable to perform any more repairs to the battery cable as the cable hardened and broke at stress points (as would any copper wire).Even after a price drop, I don't feel this is worth the money. If I can buy an alloy-bodied divers torch waterproof to 50m with the same light output for less money, I think LED Lenser could do better on the materials front given LED Lenser can gain economy of scale that a company making a diving torch won't be able to.No point having a good powerful light if the hardware around won't last.My initial impressions are that this is an extremely powerful and well made lamp.Out of the box, it is quickly apparent that this is constructed to the highest standard - although it is plastic, it feels very strong and has a good weight (isn't too heavy, but doesn't feel cheap either). It has some nice features: it includes a rechargeable battery and charger, although it will recharge from any USB port, it has an extra strap over the top of your head to hold it firmly in place, and the battery back can be removed and put on your belt (an extension cable is included). The lamp itself is fully adjustable - it will tilt downwards 90 degrees, and it has an adjustable beam (from flood to zoom),The most noticeable feature of this lamp is how powerful it is - at full power it is exceptionally bright (do not look into the beam!) and I can't think of any situation where you would need anything brighter. However, there is a big downside - the instructions are shocking! The included diagrams will frustrate and confuse you, and from what I can work out are misleading at best, and in places wrong. That said, I was able to locate the full manual online (with the help of Google - the included QR code which I assume is meant to link to the manual is a dead link!) - with the help of the manual all became very clear very quickly.Although the item itself is clearly a 5 star product, the woeful instructions make it barely a 4 star!
