Description

Amazon.com These 4 discs present 50 songs from modern rock's most unique and prolific parodist, Weird Al Yankovic. The set is not spiked with outtakes, rarities, or live versions, so fans who already own the majority of Yankovic's catalog will likely want to shy away from this collection, unless they merely live to give money to Weird Al. In his own inimitable fashion, Weird Al skewers almost every major pop-culture trend and puffed-up, pompous pop star. The rest of the songs are celebratorily wacky ditties, the workings of a splendidly talented--and mildly twisted--imagination. --James Conde

Weird Al Yankovic is a giant in the field of song parodies. Since 1983 he's been creating the best and the funniest song parodies from Michael Jackson to Joan Jett and the Blackhearts to Robert Palmer to Billy Ray Cyrus. But he's also so much more than that; he's also made creations of his own. There have been a small handful of greatest hits created over the years, including "greatest hits volumes 1 and 2" and "The Essential" and its follow-up "The Essential 3.0". Most recently there's been the robust 15 album "Squeeze Box" which includes all of his studio albums. But if you want all of his greatest, look no further than "Permanent Record (Al in the Box)", which is a 50-song collection including his work up until 1994 along with "The Essential Weird Al Yankovic" including his work up until 2009. "The Essential 3.0 Weird Al Yankovic" includes six extra tracks but if you own "Permanent Record" the two you won't get "Wanna Be Ur Lover" and "Genius in France" are unessential if you don't want to shell out the extra $13 for the upgrade from the two-disc on Amazon for a used copy or the outrageous $500 asking price for a new copy. Buy "PR (AitB)" and "TE" and you will have everything released on Greatest Hits collections from The King of Parodies so far.
