Let me begin by saying that I inspected each piece as soon as this set arrived. It is so well packaged that there was not a break or chip in any of the pieces.While so many different types of products will advertise "high-end at an affordable price," you can often look at them and see that they are NOT as nice as the higher priced items - that is NOT the case with this set! These are, in fact, better then a lot of sets I have seen that were $100+ for a single place setting. They are certainly brighter (in regards to the "white" of the china) than the higher priced sets I found in stores, and include more pieces then I have seen included in other sets. I still chose a cream colored table cloth for this set, along with gold place mats.The gold is without a flaw. I see no missed spots, no extra coverage - the lines are actually perfect as far as I can see.The care instructions are included in the box. It tells you what to avoid, how to keep the gold in the best possible condition, etc.My mother has a very nice set of her own, but told me that she is jealous because this is nicer then hers, and I'm pretty sure mine was cheaper.I may very well buy another pattern from the same company. I chose this one because it is very traditional and I plan to use this for holidays and other special occasions, but may want a more contemporary pattern for use during our weekly dinner parties.
