This is a great planter if you don't mind spending some time and work putting it together. A few years ago I had purchased a similar planter which was fully welded and required no assembly, but at more than twice the price of this one, I was willing to put in a little assembly work.I purchased four of these planters, for the purpose of planting bamboo so create a privacy screen for my backyard. I am very happy with the weight, durability and how well made the planters are. They are heavy enough that the bamboo won't escape, per regulations where I live. The first one took me about three hours to put together, but by the time I assembled the fourth one, it only took an hour. Assembly is not difficult, but it is tedious because some of the spaces are very narrow to fit your fingers into in order to turn the nut and bolt. Assembly would probably be better with two people, but I managed to accomplish it by myself, which likely accounts for the time spent on it. As you attach the sides to the bottom of the planter, you will need to prop the sides up, using a book, cutting board or something similar to match the height of the bottom, as it has legs. There are videos on YouTube posted by Watbick, just search for it, and you can watch how it's put together before assembling it yourself. But as it's just a video, I have put a few suggestions together to make it easier.1) Carefully remove the foam insulation from the pieces before working. You won't be able to fit the bolts in with the foam in place. Gently slide the foam out so you don't damage it. It will need to be replaced when you are done, as it helps the plants to insulate from the cold. Then remove any and all rings that you might be wearing. Rings will make it more difficult to fit your fingers into the tight spaces as you assemble.2) Wear old clothes that you don't care about. Black residue will come off as you are working, and it will coat your fingers, hands, arms and whatever clothing touches the surface of the planter. Have a nail brush handy for scrubbing, this stuff is hard to get off!3) Pair up all the nuts and bolts first, before you begin to work. A couple of the bolts may have threads that don't allow a bolt to screw on. If you need more, you can, like me, drive to the big box hardware store. And, like me, you may find they don't have quite the correct size. The only ones they had were a bit longer, but they did work out. If you need to buy longer bolts, you may find they only fit into certain sides of the planter as the clearance is too low on some of the sides. Actually, you should do this first so you can make a trip to the store before beginning.Once assembled, prior to planting, you will probably want to patina the planter. The planter arrives in its natural steel state, and will patina over time outside. Speed it along by spraying on a solution of 2 cups hydrogen peroxide, 2 Tablespoons white vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Let dry between coats and apply up to four coats of patina solution. Use a dry cloth to wipe down the sides if you want to control the flow or streaky appearance. There really is no right or wrong with this part, as each person will have their own preference for how they want the patina to look.I do recommend purchasing this planter, as it's a good value and looks just like the more expensive ones once you've put a little work into it, and at least half the price.
