Description

Our blues-iest kit yet! Three string in Open G tuning with a classic Lipstick Tube Pickup! Easy to assemble and ready to be stained, painted, woodburned, decorated and customized. The top panel can even be flipped around to build a lefty guitar! Designed and with most of the parts made right here at the C. B. Gitty workshops in Gonic, New Hampshire, this amazing-sounding guitar can be built at your dining room table with just a few basic tools. No advanced woodworking is required (no sawing, routing, etc) - just some basic clamping, light drilling and screw insertion is all it takes to build your very own three-string tenor guitar. Named for Tupelo, Mississippi, a town right in the heart of Blues Country and the birthplace of the king. Tenor guitars have been around for many years, but they have always been the lesser-seen cousin of the 6-string guitar... but it is time for that to change! With their shorter scale (23 inches instead of 25+), fewer strings, and versatile tuning options, 3-string tenors are a great way to either get started playing, or to expand your repertoire. This tenor kit comes with a set of strings meant for tuning to Open G "GDG", which has become the de facto standard for 3-string cigar box guitars. It comes with a full fretboard already attached to the neck, making assembly easy. The detailed how-to guide not only shows you how to assemble the kit, but also includes some basic how-to-play information as well, to help get you picking once the build is done. We also throw in a full-color copy of Ben Gitty's "Essential 3-string Chords Poster" with every kit, which is a wealth of information to help get you strumming along with popular songs. Assembly time on this kit is 3-4 hours, not including glue set-up time. It is recommended for ages 16 and up, though younger kids can help build it with close adult supervision.

I like the kit. Easy build, however. A few things i did differen. First, the neck Instructions say to glue the neck to the support. I didn't feel this was adequate so I pre drilled 4 holes, glued and screwed. Second the say to glue the top cover on. I don't think so. If you ever want to get into the body again forget it. I pin nailed mine. Now for the lipstick pickup. Read reviews saying it was junk but figures I'd try it for myself. Reviews were right it's JUNK! I've built hundreds of cigar box, shovel, tool box, gas can guitars and more. I use mgb mini humbucker pickups, they sound fantastic and they only cost $9.00 ea. I will be replacing the pickup in this kit.Cosmetically, it's a cool looking guitar. I sanded mine, rounded the edges and corners then stanied it. Very happy with the look. One more modification I'll be doing is rounding the back of the neck, just enough to remove the sharp edge. It will be much more comfortable that way.
