Description

Maia is having a very bad day. Her life-long dreams to join the elite Ocean Agency wither and die, when, despite everyone's high expectations, she fails the entrance exams. Then, with the loss of her student status, she gets evicted! Penniless, homeless, and unemployed, Maia finds herself in the middle of a shoot-out between fugitive convicts and the Nereides- sexy agents who only take the most high-paying and dangerous jobs. Desperate, Maia takes the first job offered to her: to take a starring role in the next Nereides operation- as bait!

Okay, this is a strange review because Daphne in the Brilliant Blue needs to be reviewed as a series, NOT as volume A or chapter B type reviews. This is a deliberately "plain" looking image plan because they want you to focus on the story, focus on what is happening, why it is happening, and to keep up with the story, while a lot of shows focus more on the image than on the story.I have seen seven DVD sets of the entire series for sale, but that goes into sticker shock. Look at the image for the DVD box shown here-- that is the original seven cases, one DVD to the case, and the better image version. There are some sets produced with more episodes per disk, thus fewer DVDs, and at least one six DVD region 2 set that is good-- if you have a region free player, but if sticker shock is something you consider real, come here, buy the episodes and compile the series before you start watching. That way you can spread out the purchases over time, and if it worries you, you can watch number one and see if you are interested enough to go for broke. The story is that global warming is real, the world is flooded, most of the people drowned, and they have governments that are inept enough that it is more or less regional groups trying to eke out a living based on salvage and fishing. It came out on DVD in 2004, but seems to have a lot in common with the most extreme views of climate change-- albeit, more water than we have available, but a foreboding of the global nightmare.Seven volumes, each with a number on the front, and in spite of the price it is great for the story, the way they struggle with a world that is unfriendly, and that things just do not work out the way they should. It is a 9/10 or five out of five rating for the entertainment volume if you get all seven DVDs and watch them in order. You need to watch them in order, so don't say "Hey, I found volume five, let's see if it is any good" because the set up is vital to the story.
