Mackie has been a great company over the years with durable products at a reasonable price. I’ve used HR 824 studio monitors and SRM 450s for small rigs for over two decades with no issues. I started looking for a great set of 32-ohm 50-mm headphones for DJing after my Beyer DT-770s began to seriously age. The Pioneer X7s, AT M50X and Sony 7506s are all standards but they all suffer the same issue. Pleather flaking, boosted frequencies for the “listening” aspect, and no travel cases. When DJing or mixing, I don’t want added frequency boosts from a product. IMO, the EQ from my source should be the only changeable influence for my reference. I suffered from having bass boost headphones in the past because although my mixes were solid, my recordings were thin. It’s because I wasn’t pushing enough bass to the records. In my cans it sounded like I was pushing the low end to hard when I wasn’t.These headphone’s response are flat. If you come straight from a source it’s very close to what the source is producing. No mid harshness. No overdriven low end. At 32-ohms, these Mackies have a lot of headroom if you need balance in a loud environment. The headband and cups are comfortable and real leather. When I DJ, I’m often mixing four to six hours. That’s where sweat eats through pleather, not with these. The construction is solid. The case and cables are a great touch! Big plus for Mackie including a $25+ case with the purchase. I dig the twist locking 1/8” cables but in a jam, any 1/8” would work. I bought a few additional braided cables for under $10 as spares just in case.I’ve compared these side by side with Beyer 770s, 880s, Pioneer X10s, X7s, Sennheiser HD600s, V-Moda 100s, and Sony MDR-V1s. Yes, the higher end 880s and X10s were more accurate but the Mackies performed great. At $110 including a three year protection plan, how could you go wrong? I highly recommend.I’ve worked in entertainment for 35 years as an LD, A1, Systems Engineer, and DJ. I hope your experience with these headphones is as good as mine. ??
