Well so far very pleased with the install of this booster for my 50 gal water heater. last year I had to replace my 80 gal water heater. I could not find a standard 80 gal except for the hybrid type which I could not install because of the space constraints in my utility room where my two air handlers are. So I bought a 50 gal which meets all our needs (just the two of us now) with one exception. We have a tall walk in tub that uses 80-90 gallons. It would fill to about 2/3 then run out of hot water. Not Acceptable. Options keep looking for an80 or add another 50 in series or get an 80 hybrid installed in the garage with new circuitry and plumbing (mega bucks) or do nothing and never use the tub. In my research I came upon heater boosters of which I found three or so on line. decent comments etc. Well for $400 it was a true good alternative if it really works. Decided on this Rheem. Good reviews. Im pretty handy with tools, plumbing and electrical stuff but I am not a plumber nor electrician and was able to install it myself in a couple of hours. tried out the tub. Hot water started to crap out at the usual level about 2/3 full. at that point the booster started kicking in. The but.... It did not take over like a freshly charged water heater. It did allow me to use the tub.. Here's how. I turned off the cold water, then dropped the hot water spigot to 50% volume. I was monitoring the temp. The tub water temp was about 101. water coming out of the hot water was around 85. when I dropped the flow to about 50% the temp coming out of the spigot increased to 115 degrees. (full water volume did not seem to help) I left it there and continued to fill. At the end of the fill temp reached 103*, plenty hot for the bath. The menu is easy to use...intuitive. Quiet. I am very happy so far and will update this review as time goes on.
