This speaker combines all the key ingredients to make the perfect High Efficiency vintage American “50’s AlNiCo magic” speaker at a *louder* volume, still retaining that complex, unmistakable texture without bloating the low end - it doesn’t fart out! The bass is subdued and tight in an open back cabinet, and all that papery magic comes through just as it would with a lighter weight speaker, clear and open, sparkly and full of that tone that responds so dynamically to the nuance of the fingers… Unbelievable! The speaker I’ve always wanted but didn’t realize how important these factors all are - no doping, seamed, ribbed cone, paper dust cap, and to set it all off, a 35 OZ AlNiCo magnet!!! My favorite 12” guitar speaker of all time. Put it in a closed back cabinet and it will compete with any legendary American flavored AlNiCo and the Black Mountain will come out as the clear and shining winner. Astounding!! I forgot the most important ingredient- a paper voicecoil former- this is why it is only rated up to 30 watts RMS. It is true magic- like the old blue square frame AlNiCo Pro Junior & Tweed 4x10 Bassman speakers of the early 90’s. Just in an extremely efficient 12” size. The speaker will break up as you dig in, yet clean up when you lighten your touch, without being harsh. The 1.75” voicecoil lends the perfect amount of high end- with overdrive, it starts to remind me of an old vintage Greenback, and I just use the controls on the guitar for a wide range of tones. This is a speaker connoisseur’s dream! Perfect for any amp 30 watts and below, and I’m getting 2 more for my closed back ‘66 2x12 Fender Bassman Cab that I’ll push with my Bandmaster Reverb head. So glad I discovered this speaker!!
