I purchased two of these mailboxes-- one in bronze (for myself) and one in black (as a housewarming gift for a family member) and they are gorgeous! They are well constructed, heavy duty, and beautiful. This locking mailbox has a slot for your mail to be inserted. While this photo shows the (optional) sliding red flag, it also comes with a more "standard" red flag that you raise (you choose which you prefer when assembling). You will want to purchase the 2" brass numbers as well to mark your address. These brass numbers are "peel and stick" and are very nice. The address holder will hold up to FIVE of these 2" brass numbers. This mailbox is very heavy duty (solid) and it will most likely take two people to install it. One note about installation is that from the base to the bottom of the mailbox, it is approximately 39" and, according to U.S. Postal regulations, the distance from the bottom of the mailbox should fall between 41" to 45" from the base. In order to accomplish this, we installed the mailbox as follows:IMPORTANT NOTE: Read these USPS guidelines BEFORE determining placement of your mailbox: https://www.usps.com/manage/mailboxes.htm(1) Create TWO identical 14" x 14" cardboard templates with holes cut out where the screws will be placed (trace from post base and indicate FRONT on each template; FRONT should face toward the street).(2) Once you have determined the proper location for the placement of your mailbox, dig about 4" down and create a level 14" x 14" area (or slightly larger).(3) Place about 2" of rock/gravel (3/4 minus or similar) on top of ground and be sure area is level(4) Build a SQUARE frame (inside dimension should be 14" x 14") out of 2" x 4"s and position on top of the rock/gravel and make sure it is level.(5) Position FOUR 6" stainless steel 3/8" bolts (sold separately) up through the bottom of one of the cardboard templates and position template on top of rock/gravel with FRONT facing toward the street (NOTE: screws may not sit perfectly straight at this stage, but that's okay you will fix that later).(6) Drive an 18" piece of rebar (sold separately) down through the center, leaving about 4" to 6" protruding above ground(7) Mix up a 50-lb or 60-lb bag of concrete (sold separately) per instructions and fill in the 14" x 14" frame with the concrete, straightening the screws as you go. Level the concrete as you work. (NOTE: If you get any concrete on the screw threads, be sure to wipe it off promptly).(8) Position the other cardboard template on top to hold the bolts in position. This step should ensure that the bolts will properly fit through the base of the mailbox.(9) Allow concrete to dry for the recommended period of time (per instructions on concrete) or overnight.(10) Place the assembled mailbox on top of the FOUR protruding bolts and secure each with a 3/8" stainless steel washer and 3/8" stainless steel nut (sold separately). Some other things to note is that this mailbox is shown with a newspaper holder, but you do not have to attach it as it is a separate piece. This also comes with a standard door (non-locking), which is nice should you ever decide to make this a non-locking mailbox. It also comes with the tools to assemble the mailbox -- a mini screwdriver with removable bit for both Phillips and standard screws and a mini wrench, which is nice, although I ended up using a ratcheting screwdriver and ratcheting socket wrench (it was easier).Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and the owner of the business was a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend this product. Please note that the black mailbox/post is shipped solid black. My photo shows extra (bronze) details which I added by using a bronze Sharpie marker.
